FAQ

Questions we get a lot

If you don't see your answer here, call or email us — we'd rather talk it through than have you guess.

The basics
Where do you travel?
We're predominantly in and around Calgary, and regularly head to Banff and Canmore. We'll also travel further into Southern Alberta — Airdrie, Okotoks, High River, Cochrane, and beyond. A travel fee applies outside Calgary city limits; the further out, the more worth it is to ask us directly rather than guess.
Will the Ape fit at my venue or backyard?
In almost every case, yes — we've made some pretty tight and unusual spots work. We need a path at least 5 feet wide to get the truck into position (a gate, side yard, or driveway — tight clearance is fine), and a roughly 10-foot area for it to park. The one non-negotiable is that it has to sit level. Slight grades can sometimes be managed on site, but a noticeably sloped yard is the most common reason a space doesn't work. Not sure about yours? Send us a few photos of the access path and the spot you're picturing, and we'll tell you straight away.
Do you supply the alcohol?
No — and this is the most important thing to understand about how we work. Bubbles and Brews is dry-hire: you provide the alcohol, and we bring everything else — the truck, the bartenders, the taps, the drinkware, the ice, the garnish. There's no liquor markup, and we never run a cash bar. Alcohol needs to be on site at the time of drop-off, and we'll walk you through exactly what to buy based on your guest count and drink choices.
Do we need a liquor license?
It depends on your venue. Most residential properties (backyards, private homes) don't require one, since you're serving your own guests, not the public, and not selling drinks. Public venues, ticketed events, or anywhere alcohol might be considered "sold" can require a Special Occasions Permit (SOP) in Alberta. Securing any required license is the client's responsibility, but we're happy to point you in the right direction if you're not sure where your event falls.
Note: liquor licensing and our own liability coverage are two separate things — having the right permit doesn't automatically extend our insurance, and vice versa. Worth asking us directly if your event has any unusual circumstances.
What's included
What's included in a package?
Every package includes the Ape and a bartender on site, two taps with cooling lines, one tap always available non-alcoholic, limited drinkware, ice, garnish, and condiments, sufficient CO2 for your event, and full setup before and teardown after — so your booked hours are pouring hours, not us getting in your way. See the Packages page for current pricing.
What can you actually pour?
Two taps means two things flowing at once — typically one prosecco or wine, and one custom cocktail. Anything clear and carbonation-friendly (prosecco, wine, beer, kombucha, craft soda, most cocktails) can run through the tap line. Drinks that need fresh ingredients — a mojito's mint, for example — can't go through a tap, so we batch the base and muddle and finish those by hand instead. See What We Pour for the full picture.
Can guests get a non-alcoholic version of any drink?
For our muddled and batch-built cocktails, yes — we build the mocktail base first and add alcohol after, so a fully alcohol-free version of the same drink is always available, not an afterthought. One of our two taps is also always reserved for a non-alcoholic option.
Do you provide real glassware?
Standard service uses durable drinkware, not glass. If you'd like real glassware for your event, we can connect you with a rental partner — booked and paid directly by you, so breakage isn't on either of our shoulders.
Booking & logistics
How do I book, and what's the deposit?
A $500 non-refundable deposit secures your date once your contract is signed, with the remaining balance due 30 days before your event.
Do you need power at the venue?
Yes — a standard 110V, 15-amp outlet is needed at the location of the cart. Providing power access (and any related cost) is the client's responsibility. If you're not sure what's available at your venue, let's talk it through before your event.
What if it rains?
The Ape itself is weather-resistant and can pour rain or shine, but extreme weather (lightning, severe wind) is a safety call we'll make together on the day. Worth having a backup covered spot in mind for outdoor events, just in case.
Can you handle a larger event with more guests?
Yes — for bigger events, we can bring a second bar and additional bartenders to widen what's pouring at once. This is fully bespoke and quoted case-by-case based on your guest count, so reach out and we'll figure out what makes sense.

Still have a question?

We'd genuinely rather talk it through than have you guess.
